The Collaboratory

Located on Wardman Library’s main floor, the Collaboratory is a technology-enabled space designed to foster collaborative teaching and/or research.  The Collaboratory has two smartboards with projectors and speakers that can be used together or independently, two large movable whiteboards, and two movable HD displays with laptop connectivity.  It features an open, flexible, and reconfigurable area with movable tables and chairs to facilitate technology-enhanced teaching and learning experiences.  The space is intended for faculty or librarians to hold sessions.  

Library Instructional Space (LIS)

This new instructional space is located in the southwest corner of the Library's main floor.  The space will be used for Library-focused workshops or librarian-led instructional session for classes.  It has seating for up to 18 students.  During a session, each student (up to 15) will be provided a Microsoft Surface to follow along with the librarian.  This space is only reservable by librarians.  If you would like to set up an instructional session by a librarian, please complete this request form.

 

Faculty Alcove

Located on Wardman Library’s main floor, the Faculty Alcove is intended for faculty to visit with colleagues, engage in collaborative projects, conduct interdisciplinary research, or work one-on-one with librarians or students.  The space is equipped with four workstations (three PCs and one iMac); a multifunction device that offers printing, scanning, or photocopying; and a flatbed scanner.  The Faculty Alcove is open and accessible all hours that the Library is open and by appointment when the Library is closed to the campus community.  The space can be reserved by librarians and faculty for meetings or workshops.  

 

The Sound Room

Located on the mezzanine level of the Wardman Library, the Sound Room (M013) is a small sound-proofed room equipped with video and audio recording equipment designed for interviews, digital stories, podcasting, lectures, and other multimedia projects. The room includes microphones, a mixer, lighting kit, and green screen.  The workstation has ProTools, iMovie, Adobe CS Suite, and Audacity.  Please review the Audacity documentation on the software utilized in the Sound Room.

  • Reservations are limited to currently enrolled Whittier College students, faculty, and staff.
  • Authentication through MyWhittier username and password will be required for booking.  
  • Reservations are not guaranteed and must be approved.
  • Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.  If you need one of these spaces sooner, please email library@whittier.edu.
